Traveling across Nepal is about to get smoother, safer, and much more reliable. Buddha Air has officially welcomed a brand-new ATR 72-600 aircraft (call sign: 9N-AOS) to its fleet. Ferried directly from Toulouse, France, the aircraft is slated to begin commercial operations next month after completing regulatory approvals.

At New Step Travel and Tour, we are thrilled about this upgrade — because better aircraft technology means a much more seamless journey for all our clients.
✈️ What Makes the New ATR 72-600 Special?
The ATR 72-600 is equipped with cutting-edge aviation technology designed to elevate both passenger comfort and flight performance:
- Full Glass Cockpit & Digital Avionics: Features advanced digital flight management systems for precise navigation and heightened operational safety.
- Eco-Friendly Efficiency: Modern engines consume significantly less fuel, reducing carbon emissions and making domestic travel greener.
- Quieter, Modern Cabin: Ergonomic seats and noise-reduction technology ensure a quieter, more relaxed flight experience.
🌫️ Say Goodbye to Weather Delays: The Power of RNP-AR
Nepal’s terrain and unpredictable mountain weather often lead to flight disruptions due to poor visibility. The true game-changer in this new aircraft is its Required Navigation Performance Authorization Required (RNP-AR) approach system:
- Kathmandu & Bhairahawa: Standard Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) require visibility of at least 1,600 meters. With RNP-AR, the aircraft can safely land in visibility as low as 900 meters.
- Pokhara International Airport: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is studying RNP-AR procedures for Pokhara. Once implemented, minimum required visibility will drop from 3,100 meters down to around 2,000 meters.
Why this matters for your trip: Fewer cancellations, fewer morning delays, and far more reliable flight schedules across key routes.
📈 Fleet Growth & The Road Ahead
This addition brings Buddha Air’s active fleet to 17 aircraft, including 15 ATR 72-500s, one ATR 42-320, and the newly added ATR 72-600.
The airline also plans to add another ATR 72-600 by the end of August, followed by two more in the coming months.
